To use less power, Optimus provides integrated video when it is called for. As Optimus senses graphically dynamic programs, it turns on or off the discrete DX11 GeForce GT 425M graphics card (with 1GB GDDR3 memory) depending on when you need it. The display of this laptop is 17.3 inches of 16:9 resolution backlit LED. The Hybrid SSD technology of this laptop fuses traditional mechanical hard drive technology (to keep the cost down) with solid state performance. The Alt-17 comes with a choice between the Intel Core i5 or i7 processors. Either option has the Intel HyperThreading feature, which improves the processor's multitasking ability. This model differs from the slightly lower cost Alt-15 model in that it has a larger display (17.3 inches as opposed to the Alt-15's 15.6 inches). The Maingear Alt-17 is equipped with 802.11n wireless, as well as 10/100/1000 Ethernet.
