Lenovo ThinkPad R500

$1,010.00 Released July, 2008

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Extremely sturdy build quality, feels like it can take some punishment. Battery lasts for several hours consistently. Keyboard provides a smooth and firm typing action.

The Cons:A bit bulky and heavy, not something you forget you're carrying around. Left Ctrl key is indented by one key, takes a long time to train yourself to stop hitting the wrong thing. Picture is slightly dull, not really satisfying to watch a movie on.

Evolved from the R61, the R500 is a mainstream 15" laptop model from Lenovo marketed towards everyday consumers that desire ThinkPad quality without the price tag often associated with it. Built to be fast and as full featured as the T Series, the R500 is also based on the new Centrino 2 platform, using new 45nm Core 2 Duos, DDR3 ram and the new and improved Intel X4500 integrated graphics chip.

Unlike the T series however, the R400 does not include the option for a discrete graphics card. Starting at 6.5 pounds with a battery life of 2.4 hours, the R500 is an all around performer on par with Lenovo's T offerings, without advanced video options, WWAN or the over-engineered build only demanding professionals expect.
