HP Envy 13 (2009)

$1,699.00 Released October, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Lightweight and thin (3.74 pounds, <1" thick). High resolution LED backlit display (1600 x 900px) - superior colour gamut than the Envy 15. Comes with the latest generation, powerful ATI Radeon HD 4330 graphics chip with 1GB of dedicated RAM.

The Cons:Not the best value - closer to the underpowered ultra-portable side, quite expensive. Only 2 USB ports. Poorly implemented touchpad.

The HP Envy 13 is one of two laptops released in 2009 as HP’s new flagship units for the Envy line. It hosts a luxurious new design with a pure-grade aluminum chassis and magnesium alloy bottom; and it weighs only 3.74 pounds and is less than 1” thick.

Where to Buy

Product Shot 2 It’s the weaker of the two, as it powered by a 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo SL9400 processor; its superior rival, on the other hand, can handle Intel’s new mobile Core i7 quad-core processors. Note though that the Envy 13 does come equipped with a Radeon HD 4830 graphics card with 1GB of VRAM, making it especially friendly to serious gamers. As for the screen, it’s a relatively small 13.1” WXGA display. Additional features of the HP Envy 13 include 7 hours of runtime, a tiled keyboard with a glass touchpad, and an optional Slim Fit extended battery life that supposedly goes for up to 18 hours.

Omar: #hp_envy_13_2009 Wow... this thing looks damn sweet. It is pretty pricey, but it does come with a dedicated graphics card which is a big difference from the 13" MBP.

It's got better specs, and while expensive seems better priced than the MBP.

As I'm currently in the market for a new computer/laptop this is looking VERY interesting. Though considering the MBPs may be up for a redesign in Oct 2009, I'm remiss to wait and see if anything gets announced. Sep 21, 09

shadowtech: #hp_envy_13_2009 Is it just me, or does this thing look nearly identical to the Macbook Pro? Not saying it's a bad thing, but the "Envy" name sure does describe the product. ;) Sep 21, 09

Yale: #hp_envy_13_2009 What a slick machine! I'm impressed. A bit rich for my blood, but I'd love to get my hands on one of these to see how it feels. Sep 21, 09
