Dell Vostro 1720

$599.00 Released January, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Fast graphics processing that can handle gaming duties fairly well. Screen is bright and color accurate enough for graphic design. Light enough to be carried around when traveling without too much effort.

The Cons:Need to update a lot of the software manually, including the fingerprint reader which just won't work at first. DVD drive is extremely noisy and sounds like it's about to break. Case is very basic and unattractive looking.

The Dell Vostro 1720 has one of the largest screens available out of the Dell Vostro line, and has the same general customizable price range as the rest in the line. Some of the options include visual enhancements, such as the NIVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS graphics card, or processing power, such as the Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Where to Buy

The majority of the options revolve around security: the fingerprint reader for multi-factor authentication, an encrypted hard drive, Trusted Platform Module (TMP) protected network connection, solid state drives, 7200 RPM free fall sensor hard drives, magnesium alloy reinforce base and a spill resistant keyboard. The cheaper the Dell Vostro 1720, the less options are installed to protect the laptop and make the absolute most of it. The laptop is an ENERGY STAR qualified product, meaning it saves more energy than equivalent laptops without the rating.
