Asus G71V
$97.99
Released August, 2008
The Pros:A dedicated graphics card superior to the much more common 9600M. Centrino 2 brings fast DDR3 and wireless N standard. Allows for the use of quad-core processors - for even more processing power.
The Cons:Extremely heavy at 8.6 pounds - transportable, but not portable. Only lasts 2 hours on battery conservation mode! PM45 +ICH10 chipset only support 1066Mhz DDR3 Ram. The 1333Mhz ram will be underclocked.
The Asus G71V is a 17" gaming laptop launched in late August 2008. Based on the new Centrino 2 platform, the G71V features the latest mobile Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 4GB of fast 1333MHz DDR3 ram, a 17" LCD screen with a resolution of 1680x1050, the option for dual hard disk drives, and either a DVD writer or DVD writer/Blu-ray combo.

While similar to the 15" G50V in almost every respect, the G71V comes with faster DDR3 ram and is configurable with quadcore processors. For video and gaming the G71V features the nVidia GeForce 9700M GT with 512MB of dedicated GDDR3 VRAM. While this adds heat and noise while degrading battery life, this is the heart of the gamer's pc - allowing for even the latest PC games to be played at higher settings. Due to this, while the laptop uses a 6 cell battery, it only lasts up to 2 hours in battery conservation mode.
