Acer Aspire 5536
$500.00
Released May, 2009
The Pros:Onboard ATI graphics allows for superior 3d and media performance compared to standard Intel options. HDMI output. Affordable price.
The Cons:Noisy fan. Overheating issues due to poor case manufacturing. Heavy at almost 6 pounds.
The Acer Aspire 5536 is a mid-range notebook computer. Like the 5535, it is available with a 320 GB hard drive and one of two dual-core AMD CPUs: a 2.1GHz Athlon X2 with 1MB L2 cache, or a Turion X2 unit with an identical clock speed but double the L2 cache size.

In other ways, it is a minor step up from the 5535, with 3 GB standard RAM, a brighter 15.6-inch display, and an HDMI port. With a weight of 5.9 lbs, integrated Wi-Fi, and longer battery life than many Aspire models, the 5536 is fairly portable, but lacks Bluetooth connectivity. Using integrated ATI graphics, the Aspire 5536 is not designed for gaming. Other features include a DVD writer, 5-in-1 card reader, four USB ports, and built-in webcam. Windows Vista Home Premium arrives preloaded.
